The Celtic harp has deep roots in Irish and Prince Edward Island history and culture. It is believed that the first examples were developed in Ireland in around the year 1100 a direct design descendant from the long bow.
Taking these locally sourced tonal hardwood materials, grown here on Prince Edward Island and turning them into an instrument that is ergonomically suited to the player's form and tonally suited to the player's style of music, is our passion. The harp can be an instrument of mellow tones to play in a celebration of life ceremony or higher tones to accompany drums guitar violin and flute in a joyful Ceilidh.
The process of selection is from a range of proven designs which can be adjusted and adapted to suit the needs of the player. The instrument is meticulously crafted by hand with traditional woodworking tools such as planes, spoke shave, and carving gouges.
The hardwoods are kiln dried the finest select, they are further meticulously selected for beauty of grain and tonal authenticity, incorporating the satin-like waves of curly maple and intricate freckled naturality of birds eye maple. Most importantly, our sound boards can be manufactured from the finest Sitka spruce for best tonality and veneered with figured maple. A veneered pine soundboard is also a popular option.
